2. How the Extension Works

The Live Translation extension connects to Firebase Realtime Database solely to receive translation data when you are watching YouTube live streams. The data flow is as follows:

  • Real-time Translation Data: The extension listens for translation messages sent by translators through Firebase
  • Display Only: Received translations are displayed as subtitles on your YouTube player
  • No Data Storage: Translation data is not stored on your device or sent anywhere else
  • No User Data: We do not send any information about you or your viewing habits

3. Permissions Explained

The extension requires the following Chrome permissions:

  • activeTab: To display subtitles on the YouTube page you are currently viewing
  • storage: To save your display preferences (subtitle position, font size, etc.) locally on your device only

4. Firebase Integration

Our extension uses Google Firebase Realtime Database as a relay service for translation data. Firebase is used only for:

  • Receiving real-time translation messages
  • Maintaining connection to the translation session

Firebase may collect technical data for service operation (connection logs, etc.) according to Google's Firebase Privacy Policy. However, our extension does not send any personal or identifying information to Firebase.

5. Data Security

Since we do not collect or store any personal data, there is no personal data at risk. Your extension preferences are stored locally on your device using Chrome's local storage API and are never transmitted to any server.

6. Third-Party Services

Our extension interacts with:

  • YouTube: To display subtitles on YouTube live stream pages. We do not send any data to YouTube.
  • Firebase (Google): To receive translation data. Governed by Firebase Privacy Policy.

7. Children's Privacy

Our extension does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The extension is safe for all ages to use.
